Product Development Directors must be innovative, forward thinking and utilize creativity to help the company meet the ever-changing needs of the consumer. Someone with this title can expect to play a significant role in the development and creation of the company’s product line. Dependent upon the business, a Product Development Director may be tasked with analyzing market trends, developing new product concepts, and working within budget constraints to assure that the product development process is financially feasible.

Additionally, Product Development Directors may be asked to directly assess and resolve any issues and/or perception problems customers have with current products through redesigns. They may also work with other product development employees to ensure that products meet the highest quality standards and customer expectations. Candidates may be required to hold a degree related to the industry in which they are applying, along with prior experience in a role related to product development.
